The Boys
Amazon's favorite show is back! The Boys Season 3 arrived on June 3rd, and I got to help the team at Singleframe on its marketing and creative campaign for the premiere across Europe!
Project: The Boys, season 3 premiere.
Role: 2D Multimedia Designer
Date: May - July 2022
The Boys is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. This was an inmense campaign in terms of design, and I was lucky enough to join Singleframe's freelancer team to help out with its marketing and creative campaigns for the worldwide release on Amazon Prime Video
We exported our designs to multiple countries and created hundreds of pieces to draw the public's attention and raise the hype for the new season! This was a diabolical campaign, so much fun and incredibly rewarding to see our crazy ideas come to life!
A supe(r) team effort!
What do you do to launch a highly expected new season of a TV show? How about building a 7 meters tall golden greatness, 81 sqm, 6 statue replica of the Trevi fountain, and sit Homelander right on top of it?
In partnership with JCDecaux, this statue was the face of the European campaigns and got to tour five countries, starting in Norway, then travelling to Poland, Denmark, Sweden, and finishing in the Netherlands for #TwitchCon!
Seeing the enormous interest it got from the public makes my job as a creative just super exciting!
We got to do awesome stuff! Like with Duran Duran's concert on Finland, where we dressed up the venue with Supes! The weather was rainy and cold, but the music kept the spirits up; and the areas we wrapped with comics strips were unusual: Some of the posters I designed ended up hanging from a crane! A first for me!
For this release, Amazon went all in with tremendous events as well! I created loads of assets for a rooftop party and its bar menues! I made good use of my previous experience working with top restaurants in Tucumán, Argentina, to design around the gastronomic offers inspired by the series.
Wish I could've been there to try some of the dishes!
I also had the opportunity to exercise a technique that I had only explored with passion projects before: Digital collage!
Mixing the official artwork with the recurring theme of comics around the campaign, I worked with the series enemy teams, The Boys vs The Seven, to spice things up - and I'm grateful for the creative freedom I was given with it!
And it wouldn't be a Boys campaign without some irreverent designs as well. This was my first time working on… yeah, exactly what you think it is.
Like the boys would say: What a F-ing campaign!
This was the first title I worked as a supporting freelancer for Singleframe, and it's where I found that the rules are different than those of an agency or studio, and totally not like I was used to when working independently!
Designing directly under Amazon and the creative directors was a challenging process — I enjoyed exploring and navigating the space between pitching ideas and following guidelines, knowing when to push and when to let go. I got to know more about the TV / Streaming industry as well as a new side of my profession!
Season 3 was a complete success and I feel the satisfaction of a job well done. This will remain a career highlight for sure, and I'm wholeheartedly grateful for the opportunity!
Have you watched the show yet?
